Official Contest Rules

Eligibility

• Open to students in grades 5 through 8 during the 2026–2027 school year who live in Centre County, Pennsylvania. Homeschooled students are welcome.
• Entries must be received by Friday, November 20, 2026.
• A parent or guardian must complete and sign the permission section of the entry form. Entries submitted without parent or guardian permission cannot be considered.
• One entry per student.

Design Requirements

Your design should be:

• Include the words “AAUW State College Used Book Sale” in the design.
• Simple enough to work as a social media icon or profile image.
• Attention-grabbing and easy to recognize.
• Appropriate for use on bookmarks, posters, flyers, website graphics, and digital ads.

You may draw, paint, or design your logo by hand or on a computer. Keep in mind that your logo may be printed very small on a bookmark or very large on a poster, so bold, uncluttered designs tend to work best.

Original Work Required

• The artwork must be created entirely by the student.
• Artwork generated using artificial intelligence (AI) is not eligible.
• The artwork may not copy or include copyrighted images, logos, or characters.
• Entries that do not meet these requirements will be disqualified.

How to Submit

• Fill out the entry form below and upload your artwork as a JPG, PNG, or PDF file no larger than 10 MB.
• If your artwork is on paper, scan it or take a clear, well-lit photo before uploading.
• You will receive a confirmation email once your entry is received. If it does not arrive, check your spam folder before submitting again.

Judging and Prize

• Entries are judged on creativity, originality, connection to the Used Book Sale, and how well the design reproduces in print.
• One entry will win the grand prize: $50 in Book Bucks to spend at the 2027 AAUW State College Used Book Sale, May 15–18, 2027 at the Penn State Snider Ag Arena.
• All entrants will be notified by the end of December 2026. The winning design will be announced on this website and on our social media channels.

Use of the Winning Artwork

The student keeps ownership of the original artwork. If a design is selected as the winner, AAUW State College is granted a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free license to reproduce, publish, display, distribute, resize, crop, and adapt it for promotional purposes related to the Used Book Sale — in print and digital media, including posters, bookmarks, flyers, advertisements, website graphics, email, social media, and merchandise promoting the sale. The contest prize is full compensation for that use. The full license wording appears in the entry form below.

Parent/Guardian Permission & Artwork Release

Artwork License

If selected as the winning entry, AAUW State College is granted a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free license to use the artwork for promotional purposes related to the AAUW State College Used Book Sale. This permission includes the right to reproduce, publish, display, distribute, resize, crop, and adapt the design as needed for marketing materials.

The artwork may be used in print and digital media, including but not limited to posters, bookmarks, flyers, advertisements, website graphics, email communications, social media, and merchandise promoting the Used Book Sale.

The student retains ownership of the original artwork. No additional compensation will be provided beyond the contest prize ($50 in Book Bucks for the 2027 AAUW State College Used Book Sale).
